I had previously contributed some warped sound effects to Laura Sheeran's 2010 debut EP Music For The Deep Woods before subsequently remixing two of her singles. Around that time, my musical life essentially revolved around recording in Mule Studios (based in Rathgar, Dublin), where Laura also recorded, and we also shared the stage on many occasions and toured together during the 2010s. It was always such a pleasure to work with Laura! Her favourite song of mine remains Sadness of the Sea, and I was a little concerned when presenting my remix of it: a lot of singers might not appreciate having all the elements of one of their songs stripped away - bar one (a single harmonium track) - especially when it’s their vocals that have been removed! However, Laura was above any such egotism, sharing an appreciation of, and enthusiasm for, new approaches towards music and creativity; she was incredibly and genuinely supportive, not only of my own work, but also of the many other musicians and artists that comprised what felt like a particularly unique and excitingly active pocket in Ireland’s independent music scene at the time.
