In 2007, Gary Morrison (Papercut / The Hollows / M Shutak) gave me some material he recorded, which I processed and combined with some of my own to make this track. Elements of this piece were later incorporated into the score of the 2012 film The Poorhouse Revisited, directed by Michael Higgins.
It was eventually released on the 2020 CD album The Day and the Night of the Body, on the Lumberton Trading Company label.
Excerpts from reviews of the CD, regarding this track:
"...all instrumental, all electronic, I would think and with a mysterious and quiet atmosphere. It is hard to say what it is we hear; a dense tapestry of sound, surely, of slow-moving clouds. It is quite ambient, which I guess is a bit of a surprise for this label. They refer to Labradford, Aube, John Duncan and The Hafler Trio, and I would mostly agree with the latter. Also, some of Jim Haynes' recent work sprang to mind. It unfolds slowly from light and in the mid-high frequency range and then slowly goes down to the mid-low range, a descent into darkness. There is a slow but steady development in this piece, not staying too long in one place, but also not breaking this constant, almost gentle flow. This is a beautiful piece of music." -Frans de Waard, Vital Weekly.
"...an atmospheric instrumental soundtrack, combining dark ambience and even classical elements to an unsettling effect. ...powerful and insistent... the music remains both interesting and entertaining. For those with an interest in the more peculiar fringes of electronic music, this is something that you need to hear." -Fear and Loathing fanzine.
The similarly extended track which makes up the second half of that album is not available on downloading and streaming services. That can only be heard on the CD, which is available via Fourth Dimension Records.
Remarkably beautiful minimal ambient music, soothing but with moments of quiet, yet otherworldly, drama. The auditory equivalent of the sun in a cloudless sky above the sea. BC
A combination of industrial noise rhythms, Okkyung Lee cello, saxophone and softly sung vocal melody makes for a particularly unique, intense and inspiring sound. BC
